As humans we are driven by our emotions, whatever actions we take in any aspect of life, we fall back on our emotions.
Just go back to tomorrow or the last time when you bought something or tried something which you had not experienced before, you might have bought it because of the story that you have heard through their marketing ads or word of mouth, how that product has changed their life, even in a small way.
So what I am trying to say is storytelling is the most crucial aspect to be a successful RECRUITER.
Recruiters are deals with humans, you need to influence them to take one of the most crucial decisions in their life which have an effect on their dream for their career, monetary benefits, and the change they want to make in the world. Some have different objectives for these parameters.
You as a recruiter as tell unique stories to each candidate that you come across, being authentic. Which can connect to them.
In the story, you will be telling you to have two main characters CANDIDATES and COMPANY/STARTUP/FOUNDERS
You really need to do good homework on both of them and find parameters that will match not just the skill set that you find in job descriptions but also the persona of the person who can work with the company. I mean to say the cultural fit.
Cultural fit is as important as a technical skill set. A lot of time the founders and the recruiter, ignore the cultural fit, which will hurt them very badly after onboarding.
Be authentic when you are telling the story about the company and the founders. The passion of the people behind the company, why are they building this, what are the obstacles they have come across or what are the obstacles they are trying to cross, even after all these, why do they want to preserve? And also why they have to join at this stage. Make a personal connection and show the credibility of the founder/company and how the candidate’s resume will uplift if they join in solving the company’s obstacle. Don’t try to attract candidates just by the compensation and benefits.
I am stressing again connecting the candidate to the company’s purpose. As this is the only way how you can make the candidate feel that, this is the right place for them at this stage of their career.
If you already have a few employee ambassadors who can talk about their experience working for your company, and how it has changed their professional resume working on that great product/feature.
Be a care manager to both the stakeholders, rather than a person who is just focused on filling the role that you have.
To be successful in recruitment and build high-performing teams, a recruiter has to be a good storyteller.
