To attract and retain talent, money is a resource required, but not the only resource. The recruiter/HR, who is in touch with the candidate right from the time the discussion starts, should be able to make a good connection with the candidate and establish a relationship as a friend or counsellor. We come across situations commonly today, where a potential or a current employee comes to us saying they have received an offer from another company.
The first thing that strikes most to us is we need to counteroffer and retain the talent. We all need to ask one question: Is Money the only reason why someone has to join us?
The answer should be a strong NO. People consider lots of other factors. The recruiter needs to have an open conversation and explain it again to the potential employee
WHY DO HAVE TO JOIN YOU?
WHY DO HAVE TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH YOU?
Emphasise the contribution of the role to the business, the peer group that they will be working with, and the leadership of the organisation. In case they join you and contribute to the role, explain to them how it can add value to their profile.
Create a buddy system, let them connect with the high performing team member, who can help them to understand how exciting and important the new role is for the business. Such a high performing team member can be a brand ambassador, showcasing the company culture and also explaining why they have been working here.
Without taking the client’s name, take them through a case study, and help them to see how your product/service is helping your customers excel in their business and share a few customer testimonials.
Map the journey of a person, who has joined from a similar company to your organisation and how his decision has helped him to move in his career, that was possible only since he joined you 🙂
(Little bit of selling)
And if the answer align with them, then they are the people that you have to work with.
Always focus on giving the best candidate experience and understand the candidate’s desire for the move in the discovery call.
Happy Recruiting
